The One That Got Away
Genre: Black Comedy – ‘Sweet Smell of Success’ meets ‘The Player’
In Cannes for the last film market he can afford, an unscrupulous sales agent deceives and swindles everyone he knows in a desperate bid to save his ailing career.
Welcome to Cannes; to the untrained eye, a sun-drenched marina of dreams dripping with opulence and promise and once a year providing a home from home for the great and good of Tinseltown. But to those in the know, the sparkling surface is due only to the fact that the filth has been so meticulously swept under the red carpet… or has it?
Out from the dirt crawls Jake Epstein, a loveable rogue of a sales agent on the wrong side of his prime, in all kinds of debt and without a hit since Joan Rivers could wiggle her eyebrows.
With everything from cab fares to college fees amongst the glut of outstanding bills and everyone around him from bankers to gangsters waiting to get repaid, Jake is running out of time. But will his decision to collude with the shadier characters of the film sales business finally see him hit the intoxicating heights of success, or topple headfirst into the pit of his demise.
A razor sharp satire, The One That Got Away rips apart the designer garments of Cannes to reveal the seedy underbelly of the film industry that we love so dearly…
